The 8th and final running of The O'Darby Stakes, seen as a forerunner to the Irish Derby, was held on Wednesday 9th June 1824 at The Curragh over 1 mile 3 furlongs and 58 yards. Just Ten Subscribers paid 25 sovereigns each, with colts allocated 8st 7lbs and fillies allocated 8st 2lbs. The winner was owned by Mr George Watts.

On Tuesday 20th April 1824 Kilmoylan was second in the Madrid Stakes behind Sligo. While on Friday 23rd April 1824 Kilmoylan gained revenge on Sligo in the Challenge of Mardrid Stakes. On Saturday 24th April 1824 Kilmoylan won the Second Madrid Stakes beating Pegasus and Levanter. After the O'Darby Stakes, on Thursday 9th September 1824 Straw was second to Sligo in the 100 Guineas Kings Plate.
